Amri is 50 years old and has been weaving rugs from past 30 years. “Rug weaving to me is ‘everything’, I have been doing that from years and wish to be the best weaver someday” she says. Khamoshi is a college goer and is a great student. She often accompanies her mother because rug weaving for her is a phenomenal art that should be preserved. “I like to weave and I teach weaving to my other friends as well, it is fun” she says in her chirpy voice. The mother-daughter duo is an inspiration to many villagers and if you ever get to visit their village, do visit them!.
Alwar Ki MachliWhen we travel, we keep a special part of the journey to ourselves and cherish it forever! But our weaver Amri did not only keep that special part to herself but also thought of sharing it with others in the form of this rug. “I saw some beautiful fishes in Alwar and thought of weaving them in my rug”, says Amri with a confident smile. She was then accompanied by her daughter Khamoshi, who coordinated in weaving this rug. “Mummy was making a fish, I thought I should make some tortoise hence, these tortoises”, says Khamoshi with a huge burst of laughter. “I also weaved some laddus so that our aquatic animals don’t die of hunger”, she says further. The rug has been woven with immense love and the fantastic coordination of mother-daughter duo is quite evident.
