BaarishBabulal Ji and his wife Kalli devi are very consistent with their design. As their second Artisan Originals rug, Baarish, which means rain, is simple in design but complex in its colors and symbolism. The top and bottom are knotted in greens and browns to symbolize the land and mountains that surround the river of wool and silk the couple has placed in the center of the rug. The tiny repetitive zig zag patterns were inspired by rain drops and the directionless movement they often follow. Babulal is a clever artisan who has had so much experience that he knows what consumers love, therefore putting the diamond linked motif, creating abstract designs, even paying close attention to detail by adding spiral loops at every segment of the rug.
