A weaver from 5 years, Neetu resides in Manpura with her 3 school-going children, her husband, who is employed in police force and 3 goats. She completed her first self-designed rug in a time span of 2 and half months. When she was asked to make a rug with her own design, Neetu was confused and scared at first. She was motivated during the workshops by the Jaipur Rugs’ design team after which she got inspired to try 2 inches of weaving. Later she never looked back. Unlike a lot of other weavers, Neetu prefers light colour shades such as grey and yellow.
Weaver designer Neetu has hand-knotted this rug keeping the vibrant Indian festivals in mind. She has also used the rug to express her love for nature. Starting from the deepak (earthen lamps) and candles that she light during Diwali, to weaving a pattern inspired by bandarwal (wall –hanging) on the top, she has tried to integrate elements that depict festivity. The little sqaure boxes on top of bandarwal and diyas are kites that people in India fly during the festival Sankrat. She laughs as she narrates that she has also woven motifs inspired by little ants in lower half of the rug. These ants are in her house all the time and she believes that they are friendly as they stay with her and never harm her or her family. Along with the ants one also sees motifs of bats, since they are also commonly seen in her village.
