Jaipur Rugs won the title for Innovative Company of the year. Jaipur Rugs has introduced a unique concept: Manchaha (Artisan Originals) which has resulted in a major shift transforming the identity of weavers in rural India. It is driven to unlock the untapped potential of the skilled weavers in rural Rajasthan. Manchaha (Artisan Originals) is an experiment turned movement for artistic exploration, professional growth and empowerment in multiple capacities. Here they create their rugs from their own designs without a design map or any formal design specific education. These rugs are crafted using hand-spun yarn leftover from our supply chain, making the colour palette as unique as its design.
On the weaver’s side, what may often be seen as manual and constrained labour is now looked at as an opportunity to flex creative muscles and express them on a very large, familiar canvas. Perception of carpet weaving has dramatically shifted from exploitation to transformation. Each rug, hand-made with more than 200,000 knots, is the story of its creator – complete with emotions, dreams, and personality has led to a movement of transformation in the minds of the consumers whereby they want to engage with the weavers and know about their life story. Manchaha has helped women receive recognition for their craftsmanship globally, which resulted in increased respect from their family in the prevalent patriarchal society.
